Maintaining environmental hygiene is no longer the sole responsibility of the government or organizations, but has gradually become a daily voluntary habit of many households. Without waiting for the general cleaning day, many families in highland villages have maintained the habit of sweeping, picking up trash, and taking care of flowers in front of their houses every day, contributing to keeping the air fresh and the landscape clean and beautiful.

Ban Ho Commune (Sa Pa Town) used to be an attractive community tourism destination. However, in recent years, the number of visitors has decreased because the landscape is no longer pristine and clean. Realizing this, the local government and people have joined hands to implement many solutions to improve the living environment. Village roads are cleaned periodically, flowers and trees are planted on both sides of the road, waste is classified, people proactively keep their houses clean and tidy, ready to welcome visitors back.

Mr. Ly Lao Ta, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ban Ho Commune (Sa Pa Town) said: The commune has directed the villages to step up propaganda and mobilize people to carry out general cleaning of the village roads and public areas. Each person has a job, from picking grass, taking care of flowers, sweeping the village roads to unclogging the sewers, contributing to preserving the rural landscape "bright - green - clean - beautiful".
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ky's family, who runs a homestay in La Ve village (Ban Ho), shared: To attract tourists to return to Ban Ho, not only my family but all households are aware of renovating and protecting the living environment, keeping houses, village roads and alleys clean, and building clean and beautiful landscapes.

In Cam Con commune (Bao Yen), the environmental sanitation movement is also spreading strongly, especially since the locality was recognized as meeting new rural standards in May 2025. Cam Con commune has set up zalo groups to share images of environmental sanitation competitions between villages, creating a strong spread. Thanks to this creative approach, many villages maintain periodic environmental sanitation without reminders.

The 20th of every month is maintained by Hong Cam village (Cam Con commune) as "Village Cleaning Day". On this day, all households spend 10 minutes to participate in cleaning their houses and public areas in the area. Mr. Pham Van Phuong, Head of Hong Cam village, shared: Only when the whole village works together can we clearly see the changes. Now no one litters, families are proactive in sorting and treating household waste, not letting it affect the environment.

For two consecutive years, Hong Cam has won first prize in the contest “Bright - green - clean - beautiful new rural village” organized by Bao Yen district. The village has also mobilized hundreds of millions of dong from the public sector to renovate the cultural house and plant flowers on both sides of the road. Currently, 100% of households in Hong Cam have fences and trees to block dust, and garbage is classified and processed at home.

Across the province, many practical models of environmental protection are being replicated such as flower roads, "self-managed farmer" roads, mini garbage stations, garbage collection points at households... In the period of 2021 - 2025, the province has mobilized people to plant more than 320 km of flower roads, renovate and maintain over 320 km of rural lighting systems, clean more than 1,100 km of village roads and alleys; dredge 168 km of sewers, collect more than 100 tons of waste.
Currently, the rate of households using clean water is 95%; more than 80% of household waste and pesticide packaging are properly treated; 95% of agricultural, forestry and fishery production facilities meet food safety standards. The whole province has 50 communes meeting environmental and food safety criteria; 16 communes meeting advanced environmental standards; 21 communes meeting advanced standards for living environment quality.

However, according to the assessment of the authorities, environmental criteria are still one of the criteria that are difficult to maintain without consensus and self-awareness from the people.

To continue to maintain and improve environmental criteria, localities will continue to integrate investment resources from national target programs, provincial and local budgets to build essential infrastructure works. At the same time, all levels, sectors and organizations need to step up propaganda and mobilization so that environmental sanitation becomes a daily awareness and habit of each citizen. When each household and each village does well from the smallest things, the living environment will truly become "bright - green - clean - beautiful - safe".
