The Field is not just a restaurant, but also a manifesto of the “Back to Basic” philosophy. In fact, here, everything originates from respect for nature and towards a sustainable culinary ecosystem.
From the first bricks
Starting from the source of raw materials, the operation process, to the diners' experience, all are carefully calculated by the owner of The Field to minimize negative impacts and maximize green values.
Not only focusing on raw materials, The Field also strives to green its operations. Waste management towards zero waste, energy saving, and limiting the use of disposable plastic products are specific actions. The restaurant's architecture is also designed to blend with nature, creating an open, airy and intimate space, bringing diners relaxing and meaningful experiences.
Despite the encouraging results, The Field’s green tourism journey is not without its challenges. “High initial investment costs, changing customer consumption habits… are not small challenges,” Mr. Thanh admitted.
Spreading green spirit to the community
Mr. Phan Xuan Thanh does not stop at building a green The Field. As Chairman of the Quang Nam Tourism Association (QTA), he is also a motivator, motivating the entire business community to move towards sustainable tourism.
With the concept that green tourism is not a solo game but a common journey, requiring the cooperation of all parties involved, QTA has implemented many practical activities over the past 7 years to realize this concept.
From awareness-raising training sessions, sharing experiences, to developing green tourism standards, every effort is aimed at a common goal: to turn green tourism into a widespread movement. QTA has created a platform for businesses to learn from each other, share lessons learned, and overcome difficulties and challenges together.
These efforts have created positive changes. Tourism businesses in Hoi An and Quang Nam are increasingly aware of the importance of green tourism. “Green tourism is no longer an option but a mandatory requirement,” affirmed Mr. Vuong Dinh Manh, General Director of La Siesta Hoi An Resort & Spa (Hoi An City). “We realize that only with sustainable development can tourism develop in the long term.”
Mr. Manh is also the head of the Green Tourism Club (under QTA) - sharing about the changes in La Siesta's business strategy. Accordingly, this resort prioritizes environmental protection activities, supports the local community, and brings visitors meaningful experiences, thereby developing a sustainable ecosystem.
Quang Nam also has many other notable green tourism models. These could be community eco-tours, where visitors can explore the wild beauty of nature and learn about the lives of local people; environmentally friendly homestays, built and operated according to sustainable principles; or tourism products based on local culture, helping to preserve and promote traditional values.
This diversity shows the vitality and potential of green tourism in Quang Nam, while demonstrating the creativity and constant efforts of the business community.
Green travel key
“Local people are the most valuable preservers of culture and resources. Green tourism can only be successful with their active participation,” said Ms. Thanh Nga, owner of the old Brick Kiln farmstay. According to her, businesses need to create opportunities for local people to participate in the tourism development process, from providing services to preserving culture and the environment.
In addition, to ensure effectiveness, there is a need for tools to measure and evaluate the impact of tourism activities. Businesses need to monitor environmental, economic and social indicators to assess the direction and make appropriate adjustments.
Green tourism is a complex field that requires close cooperation between businesses, government agencies, NGOs and communities. Only by sharing knowledge, experience and resources together can we create systemic change.
In addition, green tourism standards and certifications need to be developed to guide and encourage businesses to perform better. These standards will help tourists easily recognize green businesses, while creating motivation for businesses to continuously improve.
Green tourism is a long journey, requiring perseverance and creativity. Quang Nam has been on the right track with the cooperation of stakeholders. “We are not only building a greener tourism industry, but also building a greener future for the whole community,” Mr. Thanh shared.
